Weight loss: 10 foods that accelerate fat burning

1) Celery: It is practically all water, which helps bringing satiety and sending hunger away; this makes you eat less during meals.

2) Green tea: Rich in antioxidants, tea boosts metabolism and helps on weight loss. Ideally, drink a liter or more per day.

3) Omega 3 (fishes): Omega 3 is a fatty acid that modifies the levels of leptin, a substance that acts in the control of fat. Omega-3 is not produced by our body so that we can get it by eating salmon, tuna or herring.

4) Coffee: Caffeine helps to gradually increase heart rate, which helps in burning calories. One should always take pure coffee, letting the versions with milk or cream aside. Instead, sprinkle a little of cinnamon.

5) Avocado: It contains monounsaturated fat which speeds up the metabolism and helps on the fight against free radicals. Furthermore, avocado reduces cholesterol levels, improves wound healing, reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke and is good for eyes and hair!

6) Pepper: Any spicy food helps to burn calories faster and therefore pepper can be a great complement on meals.

7) Chia: Rich in proteins, fibers and omega-3, these seeds increase metabolism, decrease appetite and activate glucagon, a hormone that has counteraction to fat accumulation. Just soak some seeds in the water for 15 minutes and they will "swell" up to ten times their sizes. Can be added in salads, yogurts, juices or vitamins.

8) Brazil nut: This delicious chestnut helps to speed up the metabolism by activating the T3 hormone production by the thyroid. However be aware that nuts are caloric foods rich in unsaturated fats ("good"fat) so that they should be eaten in moderation...

9) Grapefruit: This fruit has the ability to decrease the levels of insulin, a hormone that acts on fat stores. It is also a good source of protein and has about 90% of water in its composition, which helps on the elimination of toxins. Half grapefruit before each meal is recommended.

10) Whole grains: Unlike refined grains, the whole ones (flour, rice, granola) take longer to be digested which increases the feeling of satiety. Moreover, whole grains are rich in many vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates, but low in fat.
